Okay, GQMFs, tomorrow's the big day... the official release date of the STAR TREK DVD and Blu-Ray! You know what that means...



starting at 12PM (noon) GMT/UTC tomorrow, Nov. 17! (Use this site to figure out what time that is for you.) (edit: yes, that's early for those of us who are in the US, but it'll be an all-day affair so you can join in whenever you like -- and the coordinated watch is a better time for us, so I figured it was a good compromise.)

1) Yes, it'll be a party post, but let's make it a DVD/Blu-Ray-specific party post... so less of the usual "let's-break-LJ-as-quickly-as-possible" shenanigans and more discussion/gifs/macros about the movie, special features, etc. Standard pics-per-comment guidelines will apply.

2) Of course, you should definitely feel free to discuss your movie-watching all day long! But, we will also have a COORDINATED MOVIE VIEWING starting at 11PM (23:00) GMT on Tuesday. So, plan to cue up your DVD and start at that time so we can all watch and discuss together!
a) If there is still lots of room in the dvd release party post for comments, we'll do the coordinated watch there; otherwise, there'll be a new post which'll go up a few minutes before 11PM GMT.
b) There will be another coordinated watch this weekend for folks who can't make this one; it'll start at 1PM (13:00) GMT on Saturday. Hopefully these two times will give GQMFs around the world a chance to watch together!

3) SHOW US YOUR TREK! Take pictures of yourself with your DVD, put your DVD with the rest of your shrine Trek stuff and take photos -- share your excitement with your fellow GQMFs!

4) If you've posted anything about the DVD or blu-ray in the last few weeks, please check and make sure it's tagged with the shiny new 'dvd' tag so that people can find it easily!

5) If you're one of the lucky ones who already has your copy and can't wait until tomorrow, there's some discussion here to tide you over.

Will you be in Los Angeles on Saturday, November 21, and would you like to help abandoned and unwanted animals?

The event, Hollywood Least Wanted 3D, is meant to raise funds and awareness of the rise of the abandoned animal in Los Angeles County due to the current mortgage crises. The event features 3D photographs of caged animals, taken by artist Rachel Schneidler (who is also putting on the event) with her customized 3D camera pictured above. Anaglyph technologies are used to create the photographs.

Furthermore, Zachary Quinto (Young Spock in Star Trek) is the honorary guest along with his dog Noah. Other celebrities are expected to attend as well with their dogs.

Staged at the Rivera & Rivera gallery in downtown Los Angeles, the event is catered to raise funds via raffle tickets as well as to serve as an animal adoption fair. One hundred percent of raffle ticket sales and fifty percent of the proceeds from the sale of artwork will go towards the Department of Animal Services.

Hi all! I was wondering if someone could help me locate a fic...

I read it months ago, and I'm 99% sure that it was Spock/Kirk, and that it was TOS, likely a fic written long before the reboot. In the story, Kirk goes to Vulcan with Spock, where Amanda plays an important role in helping Kirk "get used" to the idea of bonding (??) with Spock (in the story, Kirk is quite insecure/afraid of pon farr???). During his time there, Kirk learns about Vulcan culture, especially how Vulcan children are raised. He gets to know a young Vulcan boy (girl?) at the local Vulcan-equilvalent-of-a-daycare, and becomes quite distressed when he learns that the child will soon be dropped off in the desert to fend for him/herself, with nothing but a small survival pack (I think?).

I could be confusing the details, but I think that there was another Vulcan m/m couple in the story (??), and at one point, they were saying how they were looking to Spock (and Kirk) to lead reform on Vulcan so that m/m bondings might become less marginalized (??? could totally be from another story). The weird thing is, I'm sure that in the story, T'Pau was in a lesbian relationship with another Vulcan (or at least it was implied???). Honestly, I could be confusing two stories...

PLEASE, if anyobody can help, I would much appreciate it. The story (stories?) was long, juicy, fantastic, especially for its portrayal of Amanda, and I'm so upset that I didn't bookmark it (I was sure I had!). Thank you ahead of time!!
